Northeast Charter is hiring a Safety Director

Northeast Charter & Tour (NECT) is seeking a Safety Director based in Lewiston, ME, to manage our CDL driver safety program, ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, and industry standards while prioritizing the safety of our drivers, passengers, and vehicles.

 

Compensation will be based on experience but will be in the $65,000 range to start. Benefits include full medical, dental, vision, and 401k. Educational and advancement opportunities available, CDL a plus.

 

Expereience: 1 year (Preferred)
License: CDL Class B (Preferred)
Passenger Endorsement (Preferred)

DUTIES:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures for the company.
  • Monitor compliance with safety regulations and standards, including those set by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the state of Maine Department of Transportation.
  • Conduct employee safety training, including new driver orientation and ongoing training for current drivers.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and prepare detailed reports on findings.
  • Report accidents to the NECT insurance carrier.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and other industry stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to address safety deficiencies.
  • Manage drug and alcohol testing programs for employees.
  • Conduct safety audits of company vehicles and facilities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans.
  • Represent NECT at various industry safety & risk management events for ongoing education and best practice development.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance of the Driver Qualification files with Federal regulations.
  • Manage drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Maintain fleet registration and insurance records.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide safety training for employees.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and prepare reports.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders.
  • Conduct safety audits of vehicles and facilities.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and standards.
  • Experience conducting safety training and investigations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, transportation, or a related field a plus.

 

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary range: $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience.

In addition, the Northeast Charter & Tour fleet is maintained in “like new” condition. This commitment to scheduled maintenance and customer satisfaction are critical elements of success.

 

FLEET MAINTENANCE

Northeast Charter & Tour has a multi-million-dollar maintenance facility and an on-site maintenance team. The fleet has a rigorous vehicle-specific preventative maintenance schedule. Vehicles are consistently inspected to ensure the highest level of safety and zero downtime over the road for drivers and customers. Northeast Charter & Tour integrates technology such as Samsara for pre and post-trip inspection reports to communicate issues quickly and efficiently with mechanics and technicians. Additionally, each coach is connected to remote diagnostics to monitor for issues over the road before they become a problem.
